Back in 1997, two pharmacists – Mike Cushman and Denis Kay – came to realise that the current pharmaceutical model was limited. Simply put, it couldn’t provide the total answer to delivering wellness for their customers. Mike and Denis researched general and specific conditions to understand key drivers that triggered the imbalances that caused specific conditions. Along with this they researched the impact of modern medicines on body processes and their contribution to these imbalances.

Nutricare came about as a result of an interest in "nutritional medicine" by pharmacist Mike Poland some 20 years ago. That interest was born due to personal reasons when it was recommended that he take glucosamine as a nutritional supplement to reduce his reliance on anti-inflammatories and analgesics for damaged joints due to previous injuries. Nutricare products support rather than compete with modern medicines. One thing led to another and slowly but surely his interest grew to the point where today it has become the major focus in his professional life. Of course, in the intervening years nutritional medicine has gone from being "fringe" to mainstream today. Whereas supplementation was discouraged 20 years- even 5 years ago, today it is acknowledged and encouraged by the orthodox medical and nutritional establishment.
